Production Assistant
IXA is hiring a part-time student Production Assistant for a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal. The journal is currently in its initial creation phase, with the inaugural edition planned for Spring 2026. While we encourage applicants from our founding institutions (UNL, UT Austin, UC Boulder, ASU, and Georgia State), we welcome applications from all qualified students.
Key Responsibilities
Visual Design: The production assistant will assist in shaping the visual identity of the journal, including its website and promotional collateral. You will work closely with the Head of Design and the Editor-in-Chief on the layout of each issue, including illustrations and accompanying graphics.
Cross-Platform Formatting: Lead the presentation and conversion of the journal in other formats such as VR Chat, audio editions, YouTube videos, and interactive web features.
Communications: Contribute to drafting and scheduling newsletters, issue teasers, and contributor communications. Track and maintain clear internal communication workflows.
Analytics & Tracking: Help track key metrics, such as audience engagement, issue performance, and production deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong Design Portfolio: Demonstrated skills in print, graphics, and web design. Ability to apply a design consistently throughout a work and across platforms.
Current Student Status: Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student throughout the contract period. .
Excellent Communicator: Strong writing skills and ability to engage with design critiques. Have a collaborative mindset.
Strong References: Two professional references from supervisors who have directly managed your work.
Highly Organized & Self-Directed: Proven ability to manage time, stay on schedule, and work independently on time and on budget.
Innovative: Tech-savvy and a quick learner when it comes to emerging tools and platforms for production, marketing, and project management.
Preferred Skills
Motion Graphics: Experience in creating motion graphics, info-graphics and/or editing short-form video.
Immersive Media Experience: Background in immersive media or theater is a plus.
Social Impact Awareness: Interest in social impact media projects and community development.
Positive Attitude: Sense of humor and ability to make the work fun and interpersonal.
Publication Production: Experience creating a journal, magazine, or other media publication.
Timeframe/Compensation
This will be a part-time position at 8 hours/week for a year, with possibility to renew for another year. Yearly compensation is $4,500. Normal school vacations and breaks will be respected, but this position will also include working over the summer preparing for the fall issue.
